"I joined Coleman Advocates in 2008 as a parent whose son and daughter graduated from SFUSD schools. I wanted to add my voice to those of other parents and students working to ensure that every child in our schools had access to a high quality education. I have remained active to advocating for educational equity and strong for our students who are the next leaders."

Director and Lead Organizer of Parent Voices SF. I joined Coleman Advocates in 1996 as a parent advocate for youth. 10 years later, I joined the Board. I was Board President after Mauricio resgned, during N Tanya’s term as ED. I am a mother of 2 who were born and raised in SF. I earned my JD from the University of the Philippines, then worrked in the Legal Department of an Environmental Organization as Advocacy Coordinator. I then migrated to the US, had my children here and was one of the founding organizers of Parent Voices Ca.
I joined Coleman Advocates as a parent advocate not only to add my voice to those of other parents and students working to ensure that every child in our schools had access to a high quality education and family services, but also to learn advocacy and organizing SF-style. As an immigrant, I had a bit of a culture shock on how organizing and advocacy were different here in the US. Coleman Advocates had credibility and strong reputation as the leading children and families advocate in the city. Later, I was recruited to join the Board by Pres. Mauricio Vela and despite my busy schedule as PV Organizer, I joined because I believe that my job is very well aligned with Coleman Advocates Mission.

Director Sylvia Bingham Fund, Staff Attorney Bay Area Legal Aid (1990-2013)
Steve Bingham has dedicated more than six decades to advancing justice, equity, and opportunity through public service and community advocacy. Inspired by the Civil Rights Movement while attending Yale University, he participated in Mississippi’s historic Freedom Summer efforts before earning his law degree at UC Berkeley.
Following his return to the Bay Area, Steve spent more than 23 years as a staff attorney with Bay Area Legal Aid, representing low-income families and advocating for access to public benefits and essential services throughout San Francisco. His work has always centered on ensuring that people facing the greatest challenges have a voice and the support they need to thrive.
Steve has served on the Board of Coleman Advocates for many years, where he has been especially inspired by the organization’s commitment to developing youth and parent leaders. He believes that empowering people to advocate for themselves and their communities creates lasting change, and he remains passionate about supporting the next generation of community leaders.
Steve joined the Board of Coleman Advocates because he believes in the power of community organizing and youth leadership. After decades as a legal aid attorney advocating for low-income families in San Francisco, he saw Coleman doing something unique: not only fighting for better schools and stronger policies, but developing young people and parents into leaders who could advocate for themselves and their communities. Watching members grow from first-time speakers into confident public advocates convinced Steve that investing in people creates lasting change. He continues to support Coleman because he believes that when communities organize together, they have the power to transform lives and shape a more just future.

Parent of 3 children. Physician in Pediatrics & Public Health since 2000 in San Francisco Bay Area. Board member since 2004.
Coleman Advocates was highlighted as a national pioneer in my UC Berkeley Social Welfare courses in the 1990s. Coleman's "Report Card of Playgrounds" inspired me to launch the UCSF Children's Health Hut in Visitation Valley to promote community education and health insurance enrollment efforts in Visitation Valley and Bayview Hunter's Point in 1998 - 2003. I joined the Board in 2004, the last years of Margaret Brodkin's tenure. I am grateful to all the talented Coleman's communty organizers, staff, board members, and partners who've taught me so much.

I rasied two boys and now grandchildren here in San Francisco. My background includes founding Jobs for Justice and I was a head organizer for CNA (California Nureses Union). I have been part of many local campaigns here in San Franciso, getting people elected to City Hall to work on propositions. I work on the Board for BIll Sorro Housing, BISHOP, the first Filpino Affordable Housing Organization in SF. I have decicted 60 years of my life to front line social justice issues in the Bay Area and San Francisco. I come with years of experience while keeping my mind open for the new generations ideas and passion.
I work for Coleman because I believe we are one of the last institutions in SF that fights for the working class future of this city, with a focus on Black and Brown communities. I have always been on the front line of class struggles, and I love the community and the folks we serve. I have two children in SFUSD and my son is a 20 year SFUSD teacher.

For 50 years, I have proudly called San Francisco my home. Alongside my husband, we raised our four children in the vibrant, close-knit Excelsior District. This neighborhood and this city have shaped my life, and my deep roots here have always driven my commitment to ensuring our communities thrive.
My journey began with a foundation in education, graduating from San Jose State University. From there, I launched a rewarding 40-year career in Information Technology, as a Project Manager Professional, where I had the privilege of working with some of the region’s leading institutions and corporations, including Siemens, Wells Fargo, Visa, Oracle, UCSF, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and Visa. Beyond my professional life, I have dedicated myself to sisterhood, service, and community empowerment as a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKAs) and The Links, Incorporated.
"My life’s work has always been anchored in a simple, powerful truth: I believe deeply in the service of others. Over the years, this belief fostered a profound love for advocacy within me, leading me to meet and work with the many great executive directors within Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth. I have been a dedicated member, starting as a Parent Advocate for Youth (PAY) and later becoming a member of the Board of Directors for at least 20 plus years. Choosing to partner with Coleman Advocates was an easy decision because our core values align perfectly. Coleman’s unwavering focus on education, healthcare, safety, and dismantling social insecurities and systemic injustices mirrors everything I stand for. Through my work with Coleman, my mission is centered on a few critical goals: Bridging the Gap: Helping to improve and strengthen communication between our communities and the systems that serve them. Uplifting Black Communities: Providing direct support and a powerful voice for San Francisco’s Black and Brown residents. Preserving Our History and Future: Fighting to keep San Francisco a place where Black families can afford to live, grow, and remain a vital, permanent part of the city’s cultural fabric. This shared vision has made for an incredibly strong, 20-year partnership. I am honored to continue advocating for a more just, equitable, and inclusive San Francisco for our children and future generations."

I grew up in the Hunters Point Projects with my 7 siblings, raised by a loving strong Mother. We didn't have much, but that was no excuse not to try my best and be an positive example for my younger siblings and youth in our community. I used that resolve to be the first in my family to graduate college, raise a beautiful family and give back to my community. I've come full circle with this opportunity.
