Calling all San Francisco youth! Join us for a conversation about youth leadership, civic engagement, and power. Share your experiences and ideas and find out how you can get involved in making change in our schools and communities.
Every day policies are being passed that direct affect young people, especially low income young people of color. From the federal government to city hall to our schools, people are making important decisions about our lives and our futures and we have practically no say in any of it. At Coleman, we say “Nothing About Us, Without Us!” We believe that the people most affected by a problem must be the ones who determine and fight for the solutions. We are the ones dealing with these problems every day. We are the experts about what isn’t working. And we should have a seat at the table when it comes to creating the changes our schools and communities need.
Young people have always been on the forefront of social change! We have the energy, the ideas, and the hope. It is our future we are fighting for!
California young people are the largest and the most diverse generation in California. From education justice to police reform to immigrant rights to lgbtq rights to climate change to voting rights, our generation is winning change in cities across the country.
With new and growing threats to our communities every day – from continued racial bias in school suspensions and academic opportunities in our schools to increased immigration raids, police violence, and hate crimes in our neighborhoods, we can’t afford to sit back and wait for someone else to lead. The stakes are too high.
Join us next Wednesday to start a conversation about how we can get together, get educated, get organized and build power. Young people have the power to bring justice and opportunity to our schools and communities!
Let’s do this!
Yours in struggle,
